Every mention of maimai in this post refers to the
舞萌DXversion published in mainland China by Wahlap Technology
Background
For a while before this weekend (9/6), Wahlap’s servers were thoroughly fried, and login sessions weren’t being logged out in time, which got most normal players thrown into the little black room.
Saturday (9/6), morning
- Wahlap’s servers were slightly abnormal: accounts couldn’t be logged out properly and got stuck in the little black room.
- Chongxi grinded all morning with basically no issues; uploading scores and logging in were all normal.
Saturday, afternoon
-
At 1 p.m., players began reporting that the server problems were getting serious, still showing up as the little black room, being unable to scan in, disconnections and so on.
-
At 2:37 p.m., because the arcade Chongxi was at uses a mysterious forwarding setup, players there reported that they could only log in with QR codes from the forwarding server; QR codes from the WeChat official account no longer worked.

- At 2:58 p.m., people started reporting that they had been given 5x tickets out of nowhere; by then it was clear that the cheaters had started scanning accounts.

- At 3 p.m., Chongxi arrived at the arcade and found that logging in with the official maimai QR code was completely impossible — only logging in through the mysterious server’s forwarding cache worked, as shown below

- Around 4:30 p.m., Wahlap presumably did emergency repairs; uploads were working again and scores could be submitted normally, but the cheaters were still scanning accounts and handing out tickets across the whole server.
note
Why do the cheaters hand out tickets? When your account has more than two compensation tickets, your scores are flagged as abnormal and you can’t upload them.
-
At 8 p.m., something else came up: the Chinese server Kaleidoscope. It started when Chongxi was browsing the “seafood market” and accidentally came across someone selling Chinese server keys; he casually posted the screenshot in a group and asked whether it was feasible.

-
After some trial and error, Chongxi sent a door and a key to his own account and sent a photo of Kaleidoscope mode to a friend.
-
What followed was an unexpectedly large-scale spread; within two hours it had made the rounds of most maimai groups. Some explanations below.
Chinese server Kaleidoscope
- The chat log about someone being sent a key is fake; that image is the very screenshot I casually posted asking a friend whether it was feasible.

- As for whether Kaleidoscope can be enabled on the Chinese server, you all should have your answer by now. The “debunking” below falls apart on its own

- My Kaleidoscope screenshot caused quite the stir, to say the least. What I can say is that it really can be sent on the Chinese server right now; how to send it I can’t say. If you really don’t believe me, come find me for a co-op session (what

I’m sure you’ve all seen this image by now. The main reason it spread so wildly is probably the CCBY(, which has been solemnly changed to

The cheaters’ current behavior: handing out tickets server-wide, logging into accounts and re-suspending them in the little black room, making it impossible for players to play normally
Sunday (9/7), morning
- At 11 a.m., someone reported that the tech bros were handing out
1x tickets; it was hard not to laugh. Handing out id1 is enough to show their technical skill is lacking.

- People then began reporting that the dates on the multiplier tickets the tech bros sent were problematic, and the tech bros started stuffing multiplier tickets with sensitive dates onto players across the whole server. At that point I can’t really comment on their motives

- This was no longer a matter of disrupting players’ play; the tech bros had escalated the situation and stacked the prize pool on top of it.
Kaleidoscope part 2
- By now the image spreading most widely on QQ was this one. It’s been doctored; it’s not the official server

The cheaters’ current behavior:
-
Handing out tickets — scores can’t be uploaded normally
-
Scanning accounts — normal players can’t log in and are thrown into the little black room
-
For now the cheaters haven’t mastered advanced techniques like uploading scores.
As of 9:01 p.m., the cheaters have finally calmed down and tickets are no longer being handed out. So that’s the end of this… right?

caution
The following content comes from various group chat logs and has not been verified; Chongxi takes no responsibility for its authenticity
- Someone reported being sent 白系理论
Chongxi guesses it’s someone putting on a one-man show for their own amusement — sending themselves a result and making up an entire story from one screenshot. After all, we already had the Kaleidoscope lesson above. Of course, that’s just a guess; it could well be real
- Someone reported being sent a wec plate
Since the authenticity of these matters is unverified, I’ll just touch on them briefly for now. I’ll keep updating if there’s more.
Account-scanning solutions
Here are the current solutions:
- milkbot — can check ticket counts and clear tickets; for usage see the link given at the bottom of this article
- 奈伊 bot — group number: 747686616; supports clearing/checking tickets and getting out of the little black room
You’re welcome to send me more solutions
My highest respect to everyone working to keep the game environment healthy.
Why can you be scanned even without leaking your QR code?
The cheaters log into your account via your User ID, as mentioned before — see this article for details.
The only way not to be logged into by the cheaters is to not get a QR code at all.
