Let me start with the story of me and maimai DX.
Before I got into maimai DX in 2021, I mostly played Beatmania IIDX; we won’t go into iidx here.
In 2021, Chongxi was introduced to maimai DX by a friend and got dragged into the pit.
I really don’t remember much of what happened back then, so I won’t describe it in detail
My first stint with maimai DX ran from 2021 to early 2022. Back then I didn’t understand maimai deeply; I was only at the level of enjoying the game.
In early 2022, I quit maimai DX for academic reasons.
The second stint is this year. After the DX2025 update, I finally had relatively ample free time to return to maimai, and because I’d changed WeChat accounts, I opened a brand-new maiNET account and started over from scratch.
And in less than half a year, the level of chaos in the mai community became more than I could accept.
First is DX2025’s loading speed, which is almost comical. It’s hard to imagine having to wait four or five minutes every time you get on a machine, and it has become the norm.
After looking into it, part of the cause is fetching rivals plus high latency, but more of it is human factors. Why is that? So hard to guess.
In late August and early September this year, more of the mai community’s bullshit further completed my understanding of this mess. First came the server-wide outage plus the account-scanning and ticket-spam incident (see my other posts on this blog for details). I’d actually heard about the great DX2023 outage era before, but since I never experienced it myself, I had no real sense of it. This time it filled in that gap perfectly, and it also showed me our mai’s DDoS-protected servers: even a dog could come and take a shit in the server. The cost and difficulty of cheating are just that low.
What made me laugh out of sheer anger the most was that during this ticket-spam incident, players got absolutely no response when they went to the official side, and it ended up as the utterly absurd business of using cheats to fight cheats. I really don’t know what to say.
I’m also extremely grateful to all the wizards open-sourcing maimai tech on GitHub, who let me fill in, within half a month, the deeper understanding of mai I’d missed during the three years I was away. I never expected maimai tech development in this country to have reached this level.
Because the penalty wait was truly unbearable, I had no choice but to talk to the arcade and install a tech box to speed up the network. I really have nothing left to say: there is a machine in the arcade that you cannot play normally without tech.
After that came the on-and-off outages throughout October; basically the servers blew up once a week. This potato server really made me laugh.
Then there’s the leak incident. Circle had just been updated and FESTA leaked along with it; even part of the PV for the official KOP7 event leaked.
The opt for KOP7’s advance songs was pushed out on the night of October 21, and by the morning of the 22nd someone was already doing chart confirmation and making the content public — more than a week ahead of the official October 30 opening. That’s our SEGA’s confidentiality work for you.
These past few days there’s been an even bigger blowup. I won’t go into the specifics; it’s pointless. A rotten circle meets a rotten circle, and they’re both rotten through.
SEGA drags out update progress and does nothing about the cheating problem on its servers. Wahlap is like an impotent husband. The player base did it too. This is our CN-server maimai: from upstream to downstream, everything is rotten through.
As of the publication of this post, I have disabled the maimai features of all my bots and other related tools. Sorry for the inconvenience, and I hope you understand.
I really don’t want to wade into this muddy water anymore; there’s no point.
That’s it.
